I know this is an old debate, but let's hash it out once and for all. :o

Jason, with assistance (for...reasons...I guess). Not that he should've needed it, Freddy was never remotely that powerful in the real world, nor was Jason ever that slow to react. Freddy became some hypersonic kung fu god. Sucks assistance had to be there (I shouldn't complain, Monica Keena's heaving chest is lovely), but between just the two characters, Jason did get the final blow.

That's one of the few complaints I've had about that film. They should have cast Hodder, his Jason was always more menacing and had a sense of rage. Here they turned him into a slow, lumbering idiot and no offense to Ken but his performance lacked the soul that Hodder and others before him had. He wasn't terrible, just lackluster. As for Freddy, it's plainly obvious New Line executives favored him (for obvious reasons) but as you pointed out he was never that strong in the real world. He got his ass handed to him by his own kid yet he's suddenly all bad ass against Jason, a monster that should have torn him to pieces in 3 minutes tops.

I haven't watched this film in a long time, but Freddy won. He achieved his objective, to be feared again. Him getting into a fight with Jason only happened because Jason wouldn't return to Crystal Lake. Jason had very little offense in the fight. I remember a scene with Freddy slicing the hell out of him with his own machete. It was the girl who cut Freddy's head off not Jason.

The movie wasn't bad but wasn't good. The storyline was decent I hated the characters and the acting.

No one said Jason cut his head off, just he had the final blow between the two characters (shoving Freddy's arm through his chest, leaving him paralyzed for Keena to chop his head off, while Jason, randomly, just drops back into the lake.)

Jason randomly dropping back in the lake never made sense to me.

It was almost as bad as Tina suddenly bringing her father back, him busting through the deck, forcing Jason to his knees and dragging him back into the lake with the chain. lol

This movie is basically a perfect example of the struggle with VS stories lol. The things New Line did to downplay Jason so hard just to allow their golden boy to shine as long as he does. Freddy wouldn't have made it beyond that first cabin when brought into the real world. I had a good time with the movie until they prolonged the fight into the real world, even though they made Jason move like a glacier (and the incredibly stupid "afraid of water' bs).

Ronnie Yu did claim not to see the previous movies. I believe him 😆

Michael vs. Jason would have made more sense. The biggest problem with the Freddy vs. Jason concept was the characters were vastly different. One lives in a dream realm and the other is basically a walking corpse that never sleeps lol.

I recall they had an idea for a sequel involving Ash from Evil Dead. Thank God that never came to life

They made a comic though lol. Never read it. Couldn't get past the other Jason comic they released around the same time adopting the "afraid of water" bs.

A Halloween/F13 crossover could be good if done right and with the right director.

Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash - I read it, it was silly fun but a movie would have been a fucking disaster lol
