I have been rewatching the Superman films recently. I'm currently at Superman III.
To be honest I have never been a big fan of the original films, they often feel cartoonish yet still entertaining in many ways.
Superman III was a let down, this was only the second time I have seen that film.
Man of Steel is the best Superman film ever made IMO followed strongly by Batman vs. Superman. Snyder captured Superman in a way I don't believe anyone else ever will. The turned the most comic book superhero into something real and relatable. His version of Justice League was really good too despite it's long runtime.
Superman IV and Returns shouldn't exist. lol
I have always wanted to see the Doner Cut of Superman II.
And I refuse to watch the new one.

Re: Superman Films
I want to love the Donner cut of II...but they take out my favorite cinematic Superman moment: when he appears outside the Daily Planet and asks Zod to step outside. Fucking awesome moment.
Re: Superman Films
I love that moment too. tbh I enjoyed Superman II more than the first one.DancesWithWerewolves wrote: Thu Feb 19, 2026 9:02 pm I want to love the Donner cut of II...but they take out my favorite cinematic Superman moment: when he appears outside the Daily Planet and asks Zod to step outside. I assume you voted for the 2025 film. What are your thoughts on the film overall? What did you like and dislike about it?
Lastly how does it compare to the Snyder films?

Re: Superman Films
It's enjoy able. It's got some eye-roll monologues that feel out of place in general but they aren't really against Superman's character like some claim (it's like they never read an actual Superman comic before, yes he really is this naive goody-goody, Gunn just needs an editor to clean up the monlogues). I LOVE Nick Holt's Lex, give him a few more goes and he might actually outrank Michael Rosenbaum as my favorite live action Lex. Lois is actually great. I wasn't sure about her, but they really nailed her this time around, which hasn't been successful since Kidder. Sure, I like Amy Adams in general, but as Lois she seemed miscast.
My Fiya dreamcast, Isabella Merced, made a pretty great Hawkgirl.
I hate the Superman suit. Hate it hate it hate it. It's awful.

Re: Superman Films
I've been very adamant on not watching the film in part due to my protest against WBD shitting on the Snyderverse and second is my very low opinion of Gunn. I agree the suit looks stupid as fuck. Henry Cavill is the best Superman...period. I don't care what anyone else says
Reeve was good in the role too, I just hated that suit as well.
Unfortunately Gunn is forcing me to watch Supergirl because I can't pass up seeing Jason Moma as Lobo.

Re: Superman Films
I decided to watch Superman (2025) and...
Typical James Gunn film and not one of his best. The movie was disappointing in my ways. It seems like Gunn was trying to mix the tone of the early Superman films with that of the more serious/realistic tone of the Snyderverse. It doesn't work all that well.
I did not like the guy who plays Superman. Cavill was 100 times better!
The introduction of other DC metahumans was overkill. This film should have been focused on Superman and Superman alone.
The whole thing about Superman's parents and the video recording was left unresolved. (Plot whole Gunn!)
Way too much campy/humor moments.
There was some good things about the film
I did enjoy the actress that plays Lois and the guy who plays Lex Luther was phenomenal. This is one of the best versions of Luther I have seen on film!
Supergirl cameo was fun
Krypto was the best thing about this movie. Loved the dog!
Overall it's a 5 out of 10 score for me. (mostly because of Lex)
Not a good start to the DCU. Hopefully it gets better.
