Yeah the 80s remake full on embraced the body horror aspect lol.

This has been a great decade for horror movies. The late 2010's deserve some credit for what we have now. 2016 is where this trend of more serious, darker films as James stated began and it has only improved since.
As for the debate over what qualifies as horror and what does not is interesting. Alien is a good example from Dances. That film is horror IMO, same with Alien 3. It was Cameron's Aliens to took it into Sci-Fi.

I say that the films from the 70s and 80s are still more brutal in ways that the newer films are not. There was less censorship back then. Or at least until the mid to late 80s.

I just noticed Lazzy has Exorcist: Believer on there...I think he's the first person I know that liked it

Exorcist 3 is the best sequel imo.
